Kewalram Chanrai Group is the naming sponsor of the KC Arts Centre, SRT's home venue. SRT has established itself as one of Asia's leading English-language theatres. In addition to its repertoire of original work, the company has produced a number of highly popular and critically acclaimed productions of western classics starring Asian performers.

Originally founded in 1993, SRT has staged many notable productions. These include the first musical, Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress as part of the opening festival of Esplanade Theatres on the Bay in 2002. The Company was the first and only Asian host on the RSC's world tour of King Lear and The Seagull, directed by Sir Trevor Nunn and starring Sir Ian McKellen in 2007.
